STEM Field Trip – Champaign-Urbana Community Fab Lab

Visit the Champaign-Urbana [C-U] Community Fab Lab, an education-centered makerspace on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus. Fab Lab staff will lead participants through a tour of the space, introducing tool areas alongside projects, curriculum, and learning outcomes. This will be followed by an open discussion on the challenges and considerations on offering makerspace programming to youth across a variety of contexts.

Topics include: the philosophy and values of makerspaces, notable outcomes and goals of makerspace programming, reflections from programming in both formal and informal learning environments, things to consider when deciding what tools and materials to purchase and offer in your makerspace, as well as example curricula for the varieties of making and creating they offer.
