If it’s anything we’ve heard in the educational technology field, it is “we need more staff.” Of course there is the issue of funding, finding people, and retaining that workforce. The Eureka CUSD 140 school is working to solve that problem from within. Training a student technology workforce. In this session, co-presented by Eureka’s technology coordinator and live student help desk workers, we will detail how to create a student pathway that trains students to work in a help desk environment while in high school. 1) Students take a class following CompTIA’s A+ certification coursework and objectives. 2) Student TAs work shoulder to shoulder with technology department personnel, fixing chromebooks and providing support ot staff and students. 3) Students are hired in to the school district as part of the STCP (Student to Career Program) as technology support specialists. Students will earn on the job experience before entering either college programs or career.
