AI in Illinois Schools (SB 1920 and SB 2909)

SB 1920 requires the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to publish statewide AI guidance for K-12 schools (released in July 2026), and adds AI-generated content such as deepfakes to internet safety instruction.

SB 2909 bars evaluators from using AI to score or rate teachers starting January 1, 2027.

This brief covers key dates, what the guidance recommends, the new limits on AI in teacher evaluations, and practical next steps for policy, data privacy, and professional learning.
