As AI reshapes the classroom, we must look beyond the hype to address the risks it poses to students and society. This session provides a critical deep dive into the urgent limitations of generative AI, exploring the “confident lies” of hallucinations, the amplification of societal bias, and the complex ethical dilemmas regarding academic integrity. We will examine the broader societal impacts of this technology—including workforce displacement, the environmental cost of data centers, and high-stakes risks to student mental health. Most importantly, you will leave with a toolkit of AI Literacy strategies designed to empower students to question algorithms, verify sources, and use these tools ethically and safely.
