What if the rest of school worked more like kindergarten, where students imagine, build, play, share, and reflect? In Lifelong Kindergarten, Mitchel Resnick of the MIT Media Lab (the group behind Scratch) makes the case that creativity grows through four guiding principles: Projects, Passion, Peers, and Play. Join fellow educators to read the book, try its ideas in your own classroom, and reflect on what changes when students learn by making.

How it works

  • Virtual Kick-off meeting (Zoom)- December 8, 3:30-4:30: Meet the group, get an overview of the book, and plan your reading.
  • Read at your own pace- Work through the foreword and six chapters: Creative Learning, Projects, Passion, Peers, Play, and Creative Society.
  • Check-in meeting (Zoom)-January 19, 3:30-4:30: Share what you’ve tried and what’s resonating.
  • Reflection journal due April 30: Complete a short reflection after each chapter and submit it to Sarah (sphelps@ltcillinois.org).

Earn up to 8 PD hours

  • 1 hour for the December 8 kick-off
