Mentoring Program for New Technology Leaders in K-12 School Districts
New technology leaders in K-12 school districts, such as technology directors and CTOs/CIOs, face unique challenges as they transition into their roles. These challenges include leadership and vision, strategic planning, managing technology resources, and maintaining data privacy and security. A mentor can provide invaluable support through strategic questioning, opportunities for reflection, constructive feedback, guided planning, and the motivation necessary for sustained professional development.
The Program
This mentoring program integrates the essential skills for K12 technology leaders, including leadership and vision, strategic planning, managing technology resources, and maintaining data privacy and security.
- 15 hours of one-on-one virtual mentoring with an experienced K-12 technology leader, including 1 onsite visit where the mentor visits the mentee’s district.
- Kick-off webinar to start the mentoring journey and set expectations.
- Quarterly topic-specific webinars for ongoing professional learning and targeted support.
- Free registration to SecurED Schools, fully covered for mentees.
- 50% off registration to IETC, plus access to the in-person meetup.

15 Hours of Targeted Mentorship — $1,500 Value
A limited number of full scholarships are available for Illinois public school employees through the LTC. Each scholarship covers the full $1,500 program fee (15 hours of structured mentorship and support). Additional mentorship hours may be added as needed.

Each $1,500 sponsorship fully funds one mentee’s experience, including structured mentorship, professional learning opportunities, event access, and ongoing support. This is not a donation—it is a workforce development investment.

Become an LTC Mentor
Lead. Influence. Give Back.
Serving as a mentor or coach to another technology leader is a meaningful way to strengthen the profession. LTC mentors receive structured training, ongoing support, and a professional network to help them maximize their impact.
What We’re Looking For
- A desire to support emerging or early-career technology leaders
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- A commitment to advancing effective technology leadership in K–12
- Minimum of three years of relevant technology leadership experience
Mentor Responsibilities
- Participate in initial and ongoing mentor training
- Provide virtual coaching aligned to the agreed-upon number of hours
- Conduct one onsite visit per year
Mentor Benefits
- $50 per hour compensation
- Mileage reimbursement for the annual onsite visit
