SUMMARY:Be Connected: Physical Inventory
DESCRIPTION:You cannot protect what you don’t know you have. So grab your inventory list and tune into this week’s Be Connected\, where we’re discussing why a comprehensive physical inventory is a critical security tool\, rather than just an accounting requirement. \nWe will break down what to include beyond the basics—such as end-of-life dates\, physical locations\, and specific server roles—and explore strategies for keeping this “living document” accurate in the face of constant hardware moves and additions. \nJoin us to share your workflows for automating asset tracking and your tips for ensuring the inventory remains a reliable\, real-time resource\, instead of a static spreadsheet that gathers digital dust. \n____ \nBe Connected is a virtual networking series designed to spark meaningful conversations and collaboration within Illinois’ K–12 technology community. \nHosted by the LTC’s Technology Services team\, each free session centers around a different relevant topic\, ranging from infrastructure planning and cybersecurity to emerging tools\, networking strategies\, and day-to-day IT challenges. These informal yet purposeful sessions offer a relaxed and supportive environment where participants can ask questions\, share experiences\, and learn from one another. \nExplore upcoming session topics: https://www.ltcillinois.org/services/beconnected/

SUMMARY:Be Connected: Penetration Testing
DESCRIPTION:How far could an outside threat actor infiltrate your district’s networks? And what if that same threat is coming from within one of your schools? \nEither way\, penetration testing remains as important as ever. Tune in as we explore why a truly resilient defense requires both external perimeter testing (to block outside intruders) and internal testing (to simulate what happens after a credential is lost or a device is compromised). \nAt the same time\, we’ll focus in on the “day after” report: how to prioritize remediation steps and use your findings to prove to your school board that security funding is an investment\, not just a cost. Along those lines\, we’ll also break down the 2026 budget realities for these dual-layered audits and discuss how to schedule them effectively around your district’s busiest cycles. Whether you’re sparking ideas\, checking for understanding\, or creating visually rich lesson spaces\, Padlet makes real-time (and asynchronous!) collaboration simple and engaging. \nWe’re setting off from the trailhead! This is your first stop in your Padlet hike\, where our trail guide will go over the basics of making an account and utilizing a Padlet board to create engaging and collaborative experiences for the classroom. \nFor this session\, we also have an expert from Padlet joining to show us the ropes! By the end\, you’ll walk away with a fully designed opener activity you can use with students right away. \n💡 What You’ll Experience: \n\n\n\n\n\nCreate your Padlet account and build your first board step-by-step.\nCustomize your board’s layout\, colors\, themes\, and posting settings to match your lesson goals.\nAdd multimedia elements like text\, images\, links\, videos\, drawings\, and audio recordings.\nSet sharing permissions for private\, classroom-only\, or fully collaborative participation.\nDesign and take home a fun\, ready-to-launch opener activity to boost student engagement from the very first minutes of class.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis isn’t your typical sit-and-watch session. You’ll actively build\, customize\, and test your Padlet board in real time. We recommend using two devices for this webinar: one to view the session and another (like a laptop or tablet) to explore Padlet as you go. \nIllinois educators who register here and attend live through Zoom can earn 1.0 PD credit.
