Digital Learning and Innovative Practices
Audience
Instructional Coaches, Teachers

My session will address research-based SEL practices. It is important for educators to create a SEL environment for their students so that they feel like they have a safe place to learn and grow. Through SEL practices educators will gain knowledge to help their students have a safe and fun learning environment. When that takes place so does confidence and successes. I will use research-based companies and practices to help introduce the importance of SEL. I am currently our admin coordinator for implementing a district-wide program for our staff. Lots of SEL research is the name of my game at the moment.

Sasha Courtney
Teacher, Smithton CCSD 130

Sasha believe's strongly in integrating technology into the classroom in order to meet students’ needs and provide differentiation. She began her career in education and her love for technology at McKendree University where she received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. As an educator at Smithton School in Smithton, IL since 2005, technology integration has become essential to her students, which has inspired her to continue exploring different technology practices and their practical uses in the classroom. This is more important now than ever with most of us having to teach remotely as well. As well as teaching her own students she also loves providing professional development courses in technology integration for teachers to use in their own classrooms. As an educator in the 21st century it is important to keep up with dynamic educational practices by using educational technology to enhance classroom learning in the utilization of face to face, hybrid, or online learning in a 21st century environment.
