Participants will walk away with concrete strategies to incorporate media and digital picture books into their PK-5 math classrooms, regardless of student age or ability. This is important to educators because as mathematics education and instruction continues to evolve, we need to also continue to move away from using the textbook as the only resource in the math classroom. Research and best practices will be shared on the correlation between success in mathematics and student engagement, as well as how “math excitement” tends to wane by the time a student enters the 5th grade. Examples of concrete strategies educators will walk away with include creating digital books in Book Creator, creating digital escape rooms in Forms, practicing mathematics read alouds in PowerPoint, and doing digital assessments in Forms. The goal is for these strategies to be implemented as soon as possible into their classrooms.
