Rocketry + Avionics: Taking Data to New Heights
Mon. June 12, 2023 | 9:00 am - Thu. June 15, 2023 | 4:00 pm CDT
Inspired by recent space launches and wondering how to capture this excitement with your students? Join us and experience the thrill of rocketry for yourself as you learn how to integrate rocketry with avionics curriculum into your classroom. This is a dynamic rocket-focused workshop geared toward STEM educators. You will be guided through modules focused on developing foundational knowledge, predictive modeling, and fabrication skills along with data collection and analysis. The program provides an enriched learning experience by connecting the content to hands-on activities. Facilitators will lead you through interactive discussions as you delve deeper into the application of rocketry. The week culminates with your own data gathering launches with analysis of actual vs. simulated flights. Whether you are new to rocketry or seeking to go to the next level with data collection, this course aims to reach new heights.
Monday – Introduction: Colleagues & Content (Hardware, Fundamentals, and Predictive Data)
Tuesday – Rocket Build & Payload Design
Wednesday – Rocket Launch & Planetarium
Thursday – Data Analysis and Implementation Support
Housing will be provided starting on the afternoon of Sunday, June 11th and checking out Thursday, June, 15th at the I Hotel and Conference Center in Champaign. Continental breakfast is provided by the hotel and lunch will be provided during the professional development. Dinner will be on their own.
We will supply a classroom set of rockets to each teacher (12 rockets, 2 launch systems, 2 avionics, 15 motors, and wadding. This is a $500 value that allows 24 students to participate when working in pairs.)
