Media Literacy: Helping Students Make Sense of their Digital World

Thu. February 23, 2023 | 8:30 am - 3:00 pm CST

Can your students spot fake news? Do they know how to evaluate research sources for veracity? Are they aware of how social media works and its impact on their everyday lives? They’ll need to be able to do all three (and more) to become successful digital citizens, and that starts today, in our digitally-connected classrooms.

Join this session to develop your own media literacy awareness, explore resources and lesson materials, and prepare to teach students to safely access, analyze, and create digital media. This interactive session will center on experiencing learning content as students will, offering you a chance to dig deep and discover new ways to create digital literacy lessons rich with self-reflection, analysis, and discussion.

This workshop is geared towards grades 6-12, and will primarily address the new Media Literacy mandate in HB0234 (grades 9-12). Participants are also encouraged to bring a Chromebook to this session.
