As maker spaces have become increasingly essential to schools, after-school programs, libraries, and other formal and informal learning environments, educators must take a leading role in planning, establishing, and maintaining these hands-on learning spaces for their own schools, districts, and communities. Educators of all experience levels can learn what it takes to do all three as part of this virtual session, where practitioners will engage with the opportunities and challenges of these innovation spaces with special guests from the Champaign-Urbana [C-U] Community Fab Lab.

Primary talking for this discussion will include:

Why might you want a maker space in your setting?
What are our goals and values in programming?
What are some of the outcomes for learners and practitioners?
What are the challenges and limits to offering maker space programming?
What are some tools and areas of making that can be offered? What should you think of when deciding what to buy?
