Papercraft Circuitry & Laser Cutting @ CU Community Fab Lab

Fri. July 7, 2023 | 8:30 am - 12:30 pm CDT

Let’s get hands-on with STEM learning at the CU Community Fab Lab, one of Illinois’ premier work shops for makers of all ages – including K-12 students!

Join the Fab Lab team to learn how to use Inkscape (free design software) to create and edit vector files suitable for laser cutting and engraving. Using what you’ve learned, you will then have the chance to try out the Fab Lab’s Universal Laser System by designing and cutting out your very own keychain.

But that’s not all! Not all making requires computers. Discover a new way to tackle screen-free STEM learning with pop-up cards, a perfect way to teach circuitry and electronics concepts in elementary and middle school classrooms. This low-cost and low-tech activity offers students a chance to flex their creative muscles while also visualizing how electricity functions, both on its own and as part of an interconnected system.

As part of this demonstration, you will also create simple light-up circuits of your own while learning strategies for bringing this easy-to-implement STEM activity back to your classroom.

Don’t miss out this opportunity to see a thriving makerspace in action, and walk away with a wealth of resources for helping your district’s young makers shine.

Space is limited to 20 participants, so don’t wait to reserve your spot.
